Case Study – Bullrun Europe 2004

When we were contacted by the organisers of the world famous ‘Bull Run’ just weeks before their 2004 European event, it was the start of an exciting project for everyone at Raccoon.

Bullrun is the most eccentric and up market of a host of rallies that have sprung up in the U.S. and Europe in recent years, and this year’s event started in Marble Arch, London on September 23rd and ended three days later in Ibiza, Spain. Entrants included Pete Tong, Meg Matthews and Sadie Frost, plus also three lucky competition winners who travelled all of the way in a stretch limo!

Following on from our involvement in similar projects other the past few years, we took on the responsibility of branding the event in full. This not only included the production and application of all of the cars’ sponsors decals and numbering, but also the wrapping of a 52 seat continental coach, and the production of flags, banners and other promotional merchandise.

On the morning of the event, our fitting team arrived at the underground car park of the London Hilton Hotel, in Park Lane. Starting at 7am, we had just five hours to apply the logos and decals to over 50 of the Worlds greatest supercars, including a Ferrari F40, Porsche 911 Turbo, Bentley Turbo and a Morgan Aero 8.

With cars arriving one after another, the schedule was tight, but we finished on time for the start of the rally.

We followed all of the cars along Park Lane to Marble Arch in our own wrapped pickup truck, and witnessed the excitement of the cars starting the ‘rally’ across Europe.

Funniest moment? Watching Bullrun organiser David Green break down only 100 yards from the starting line in his classic 1970’s Porsche 911. Fortunately, the car was repaired and he only arrived in Paris two hours late for the first night’s party!

The whole event was filmed by MTV and an hour long documentary was produced and aired on the MTV Dance station. There was even a 30 second sequence at the beginning, showing our fitting team in action!! Fame at last…
