Case
Study – Mike Parr Breakfast Show
Client – BBC Radio Newcastle/Grafix Digital Ltd
Date – July 2002
Brief
To coincide with the high profile promotion of the Mike
Parr Breakfast show, which is broadcast daily on BBC
Radio Newcastle, we were commissioned to produce a full
colour livery for a three carriage Newcastle Metro train.
Using the ‘You’re The Star’ slogan
as the starting point, a design was created by Grafix
Digital and subsequently approved by the marketing department
of BBC Radio Newcastle.
Specification
To meet with stringent health and safety regulations
on the Newcastle Metro, all graphics were produced to
the 3M MCS specification. This ensured that all graphics
would adhere to the train exterior, would be fire rated,
and vandal proof. We printed onto 3M Scotchal premium
cast self adhesive vinyl and then applied a matching
3M anti-graffiti overlaminate.
Due to health and safety regulations, train operators
Nexus insisted on using their own staff for the application
of the graphics. To guarantee success, Raccoon Digital
liased with them regarding train dimensions and graphic
positioning, and a member of our fitting team visited
the site during application as a final precaution.
Outcome
To mark the launch of the striking new purple carriages,
Mike and the team broadcast the whole of their programme
from Platform Three of North Shields Metro Station.
Guests, including North Tyneside Mayor Chris Morgan and
Nexus manager Mike Parker were invited onto the train
to talk to the breakfast show team and the whole show
came live from the trackside.
BBC Radio Newcastle presenter Mike Parr will be appearing
soon at a Metro station near you!
